Northstar Construction Update - April 16, 2008

Last week, Northstar construction crews began staging and construction preparation work at the Riverdale park-and-ride lot, site of the future Coon Rapids commuter rail station. This week, work continues on the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Connection in downtown Minneapolis and the Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) in Big Lake. In addition, station work is scheduled to begin in Big Lake this week and Anoka next week. Details on upcoming construction activities are included below.

DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS – LRT CONNECTION

• Retaining wall work at 5th Street North near 5th Avenue North is scheduled to continue this week.
• Soil correction work at the commuter rail station site continues.
• Construction crews will continue decking work on the 5th Street North bridge over I-394.
• Electrical work beneath the 5th Street North bridge over the BNSF tracks continues.

CITY OF COON RAPIDS – NORTHSTAR STATION (RIVERDALE PARK-AND-RIDE)

• Northstar construction crews have begun preparing the Coon Rapids station site for construction. The Coon Rapids station is located at the Riverdale park-and-ride lot on Northdale Boulevard south of Main Street.
• Construction crews are currently utilizing the easternmost portion of the Riverdale park-and-ride lot for construction staging. The Northstar Project is working with its local and regional government partners to explore options to mitigate the loss of parking and provide additional on-site parking options. CITY OF ANOKA – NORTHSTAR STATION

• Northstar crews are scheduled to begin survey work and work on a storm water management pond at the Anoka commuter rail station site off of Fourth Avenue the week of April 21.

CITY OF BIG LAKE – NORTHSTAR STATION (HWY 10 AND CTY RD 43) AND VMF

• Crews are beginning site grading work at the Big Lake commuter rail station at Highway 10 and County Road 43. Temporary fencing will also be installed on site.
• There are no anticipated traffic impacts related to VMF construction in the coming week.
• Crews will install ductwork in the VMF maintenance and office areas.
• Interior piping work will continue in the VMF.
